Mercedes Ranking

A ranking system that converts results from each JLPGA Tour event and USLPGA major into points to comprehensively evaluate a player's performance over the year. The top-ranked player at the end of each JLPGA season is granted a four-year exemption on the JLPGA Tour and receives the JLPGA Mercedes-Benz Player of the Year award.

The top 50 ranked players at the conclusion of the JLPGA Tour event held in Week 46 and at the end of the JLPGA Tour season will be given full exemption for the following year's JLPGA Tour.

Players ranked 51st through 55th at the end of the JLPGA tour event held in Week 46 are eligible to compete on the JLPGA Tour the following year until the first re-ranking.

Point Calculation

For each JLPGA Tour event, players who made a cut will be awarded points based on their final ranking (see point distribution table below).

In events without a cut, all participants will receive points based on their final ranking.

If there are 70 or more players who made a cut, players ranked 70th and below will receive the same number of points.

Points for 4-day tournaments excluding JLPGA majors will be 1.5 times those awarded for three-day tournaments.

Points for JLPGA majors will be double those of three-day tournaments.

Points for USLPGA majors will be four times those of three-day tournaments.

Point allocation will remain unchanged even if a tournament is shortened. However, no points will be awarded if the competition is cancelled or not held.

No points will be awarded if a player withdraws or is disqualified.

If two or more players tie in the results, the corresponding points will be divided equally among them (rounded down to two decimal places) and added to each player’s total (Note 1).

Point distribution is calculated based on the total number of participants, including temporary registered player (professional and amateur). However, temporary registered players are not eligible to receive points.

If players are tied in total points, the following order of precedence will be used to determine ranking:

  1. Number of wins on the JLPGA Tour during the current year (players with more wins rank higher).
  2. Full exempted players for the current year (precedence within this group will follow the previous year’s Mercedes Rankings).
  3. Players ranked 51st through 55th in the Mercedes Ranking as of the end of the JLPGA Tour event (Daio Paper Elleair Ladies) held in Week 46 of the previous year (ordered by the previous year’s Mercedes Ranking).
  4. Top two players on the JLPGA Step Up Tour Money List as of the end of the previous year (ranked according to their final position on that list).
  5. Ranking order of the QT (Qualifying Tournament) Ranking List.
  6. Ranking order of the Career Money List.

Players eligible for the Ranking

Ranking eligible players shall be those Tournament Player Registrant who have participated in JLPGA Tour events during the relevant year. However, players eligible to receive points from USLPGA majors shall be limited to those who hold the following JLPGA Tour qualifications in that year:

  1. Full exempted player
  2. Players who has exempted to play JLPGA tour until the first re-ranking.
  3. Players who played in the QT previous year.
  4. Players who are returning from medical or maternity leave.

Conditions for points from US LPGA majors to be added to the Mercedes Rankings

  • In principle, points from USLPGA majors are added to the rankings at the end of the JLPGA Tour tournament held the week after the USLPGA major.
  • Notwithstanding the above, if a player who is eligible to participate in a JLPGA Tour event in that year participates in a USLPGA major event without having participated in a JLPGA Tour event in that year, and meets the points accumulation conditions, the points will be withheld and will be accumulated at the time when the player participates in a JLPGA Tour event (at the end of that competition).
  • If a player does not qualify for points as specified in Article 2 of the Special Official Competition (TOTO Japan Classic) regulations, participation in the Special Official Competition will not be considered as participation in a JLPGA Tour.
